In London the median age of the person controlling a company is 45 and 37.7 per cent are aged 50 and over, across 1,395,436 controlling positions. In the South West the median is 50 and 52.2 per cent are aged 50 and over, across 361,487. The South East is close behind at 50.3 per cent. Every other region and nation sits between 42.6 per cent (North East) and 47.8 per cent (Northern Ireland). Among companies above the small-company threshold the median age of the controller is 59 to 61 in every region.

The count is mine, re-run on 28 September 2026 from the Companies House company snapshot of 1 September and the persons with significant control snapshot of 27 September, 5,235,837 positions, each company placed by the postcode district of its registered office. A registered office is not always where the business trades. 2,343 positions had no postcode or one that could not be placed. The table, with the method, is in The Years That Made Us.

Every live individual person with significant control (25 per cent or more) of an active British company, Companies House PSC snapshot of 27 September 2026 against the company snapshot of 1 September 2026, 5,235,837 positions with a usable date of birth, placed by the postcode district of the registered office. Substantial means companies filing medium, full or group accounts. Age is 2026 minus birth year.
