Wild Leadership

Grounded. Less edited. Dangerous again.

What you do about it.

How do you become less domesticated without destroying the life you’ve worked so hard to build?

The question

I’ve lived much of my life becoming who I thought I needed to be. Who do I want to be now, and how do I live the rest of my life on my own terms?

Still in the Apex

How do I stop everything I’ve achieved from determining who I can be?

Who am I without everything that used to define me, and what do I do next?

How you live

Grounded.

Know what matters. Live in reality.

What is true? What matters? What is enough?

Less edited.

Notice where you’re holding yourself back. Change it. Not every restraint is domestication. Know the difference between exercising judgement and suppressing yourself to remain acceptable.

I wonder if perhaps we might want to consider whether this is really the wrong hire.

What am I not saying, doing, asking for or allowing myself to want?

Dangerous again.

Use your freedom. Make something happen. Dangerous to the room. Say the unpalatable thing and take the consequences, including to your own position. Grounded is what keeps that from recklessness.

What would I attempt if I stopped organising my life around avoiding loss?

Three principles to hold
01
Grounded

Know your number.

Face the reality of what you need and what you’re protecting.

Most of what you put up with is bought by a number you have never looked at.

Your figure

061218243036 months
02
Less edited

Be unreasonable.

Stop letting other people’s standards determine your choices.

The things that matter most to you may look unreasonable to the people around you. Reasonable is the word the organisation uses for edited. You’ve spent years learning what others will accept. Their standards don’t have to be yours.

03
Dangerous again

Go back to the future.

Recover what was alive in you and use it to create what comes next.

Remember the wild, untamed you. The you with everything still ahead. That’s still you. You can’t go back to being that person. But you can recover what was alive in them and become someone you haven’t yet allowed yourself to be.
